About the Role

NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist's Antepartum Testing Department is seeking a patient-focused Genetic Counselor to provide patient-centered, evidence-based clinical care through interdisciplinary teamwork. The role impacts patients and the community through a highly engaged, skilled, and empathetic team, embodying the mission of Putting Patients First.

Responsibilities

  • Provide information and support to families with members with birth defects or genetic disorders and to families who may be at risk for inherited conditions.
  • Identify families at risk and investigate present family problems.
  • Interpret information about disorders, analyze inheritance patterns and risks of recurrence.
  • Review available options with families and produce a written report of the recommended care plan.
  • Provide information and support during pre- and post-test counseling.
  • Coordinate genetic tests, evaluate results, and maintain ongoing communication with patients and providers.
  • Collaborate with the Physician Director and referring Physicians regarding relevant results to ensure seamless continuity of care.
  • Coordinate with different entities involved in patient care.
  • Ensure required test materials are available at all times.
  • Maintain communication with provider labs to optimize patient care and efficiency.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Genetic Counseling/Human Genetics from a program accredited by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC).
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Employees should live within a commutable distance to NYP.

Experience Level

  • Board Eligibility or Certification by the American Board of Genetic Counseling or American Board of Medical Genetics (Preferred)

Salary/Compensations

  • $95,000-$132,500/Annual
