About the Role
NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist's Antepartum Testing Department is seeking a patient-focused Genetic Counselor to provide patient-centered, evidence-based clinical care through interdisciplinary teamwork. The role impacts patients and the community through a highly engaged, skilled, and empathetic team, embodying the mission of Putting Patients First.
Responsibilities
- Provide information and support to families with members with birth defects or genetic disorders and to families who may be at risk for inherited conditions.
- Identify families at risk and investigate present family problems.
- Interpret information about disorders, analyze inheritance patterns and risks of recurrence.
- Review available options with families and produce a written report of the recommended care plan.
- Provide information and support during pre- and post-test counseling.
- Coordinate genetic tests, evaluate results, and maintain ongoing communication with patients and providers.
- Collaborate with the Physician Director and referring Physicians regarding relevant results to ensure seamless continuity of care.
- Coordinate with different entities involved in patient care.
- Ensure required test materials are available at all times.
- Maintain communication with provider labs to optimize patient care and efficiency.
Requirements
- Master's Degree in Genetic Counseling/Human Genetics from a program accredited by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC).
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Employees should live within a commutable distance to NYP.

Salary/Compensations
- $95,000-$132,500/Annual
