About the Role
International Wire Group (IWG) is seeking an experienced, hands-on Production Supervisor to join our manufacturing team in Canastota, New York. This role focuses on leading daily production activities, coaching employees, coordinating workflow, resolving operational challenges, and ensuring the department meets its goals. The ideal candidate is a visible floor leader who builds trust, manages priorities, and fosters a positive team environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, motivate, and develop production employees.
- Communicate job expectations and provide clear direction.
- Assign responsibilities, organize workflow, and prepare daily production schedules.
- Conduct shift meetings focused on safety, quality, delivery, productivity, cost, and inventory.
- Monitor employee performance and provide timely feedback, coaching, recognition, and corrective action.
- Promote employee engagement, teamwork, accountability, and ownership.
- Ensure employees receive appropriate training, work instructions, tools, and certifications.
- Build trust through integrity, consistency, professionalism, and respect.
- Partner with Human Resources and plant leadership on employee relations matters.
- Direct and supervise production operations to meet or exceed objectives.
- Coordinate production activities with other departments.
- Monitor production output and verify products meet specifications and customer expectations.
- Follow Leader Standard Work and established daily schedules.
- Review production priorities and make staffing or workflow adjustments.
- Identify production issues, bottlenecks, and inefficiencies and recommend solutions.
- Support customer requirements and help eliminate root causes of defective products.
- Maintain accurate production, staffing, quality, downtime, and performance records.
- Prepare and submit reports on production results and operational concerns.
- Support the effective use of materials, labor, equipment, and plant resources.
- Promote a safety-first culture and ensure employees follow safety policies and procedures.
- Conduct routine safety discussions and reinforce safe equipment operation.
- Address unsafe behaviors or conditions immediately.
- Ensure employees use required personal protective equipment.
- Participate in incident investigations and safety improvement initiatives.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe production environment.
- Ensure compliance with company, environmental, quality, and regulatory standards.
- Ensure production activities meet quality requirements and customer specifications.
- Work with Quality and Operations teams to investigate defects and implement corrective actions.
- Support Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement, waste reduction, and process improvement initiatives.
- Encourage employees to identify and share opportunities for improvement.
- Monitor processes and recommend improvements to equipment, workflow, training, or procedures.
- Help develop a culture of continuous learning and operational excellence.
- Ensure employees operate manufacturing equipment safely and correctly.
- Coordinate with Maintenance to support preventive maintenance and equipment repairs.
- Report equipment concerns promptly and help prioritize repairs.
- Confirm that required inspections and documentation are completed.
- Support troubleshooting efforts and help minimize unplanned downtime.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience as a Production Supervisor, Manufacturing Supervisor, Shift Supervisor, Team Lead, or similar manufacturing leadership role.
- Experience working with manufacturing machinery, production equipment, and industrial tools.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise, coach, train, and hold employees accountable.
- Strong organizational, time-management, and prioritization skills.
- Ability to manage multiple time-sensitive responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and analytical skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong record of safety, quality, attendance, and reliability.
- Positive, professional, and solutions-oriented leadership style.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, engineering, operations management, business, or a related technical field (Preferred).
- One to three or more years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment (Preferred).
- Experience in wire manufacturing, metals manufacturing, copper processing, drawing, bunching, stranding, cabling, or a related industrial environment (Preferred).
- Experience implementing Lean Manufacturing or continuous improvement principles (Preferred).
- Familiarity with production planning, scheduling, inventory, ERP, or manufacturing management systems (Preferred).
- Experience supporting root-cause analysis, corrective actions, preventive maintenance, and process improvement (Preferred).
- Experience working in a union or high-volume manufacturing environment (Preferred).
