About the Role

The Professional Tutor provides in-person or virtual tutoring support to undergraduate Massage Therapy students. This role requires flexible scheduling, including possible evenings and one in-person weekend day per trimester, with up to 20 hours per week. Special consideration is given to candidates with prior tutoring/teaching experience and a student-centered approach. The tutor must be reliable, committed, responsible, and comfortable working independently and collaboratively.

Responsibilities

Meets and supports students through small group, 1:1 tutoring, and/or hosts drop-in tutor sessions.
Provides content-based learning activities to enrich and support course content.
Provides study strategy suggestions and tools to enhance active learning.
Reviews and reinforces class material for clarity and understanding.
Integrates effective study and learning strategies alongside content discussion to foster independent learners.
Maintains records of student contact and submits paperwork promptly.
Becomes familiar with and uses WCOnline.
Collaborates with faculty for assignment clarification and student guidance.
Becomes familiar with D2L and how to access course materials.
Creates and submits timely documentation regarding tutor content delivery and attendance.
Provides support and review for general assignments.
Directs and maintains focus during tutorial sessions.
Refines students' study skills for independent learning through various session formats.
Provides mentorship to student tutors as needed.
Disseminates information and refers students to other support services.
Participates in tutorial training, staff meetings, and professional development.
Assists with exam proctoring.
Maintains a professional demeanor.
Becomes familiar with programmatic requirements, including the Code of Conduct and Code of Ethics.
Participates in all required trainings.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Massage Therapy graduate who has successfully entered the workforce, is currently working as a licensed massage therapist or provisionally with board exam date pending.
Ability to demonstrate strong knowledge across courses.
Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work with a diverse student population, at many skill levels, in a friendly and supportive way.
Must possess excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
Must be detail-oriented and able to work in a fast-paced customer service office environment.
Candidate must have flexibility for in-person and virtual engagement.
Ability to handle discretion and confidentiality.
Ability to work independently and allow for frequent interruptions.
