About the Role
The Professional Tutor works in the Center for Student Support providing in-person or virtual tutoring support to Doctor of Chiropractic Program students. This position requires flexible scheduling, including possible evening and weekend hours, up to 20 hours per week. Special consideration will be given to candidates with previous tutoring/teaching experience and experience implementing student-centered instructional strategies. The tutor must be reliable, committed, responsible, and comfortable working independently and collaboratively.
Responsibilities
- Meets and supports students through small group, 1:1 tutoring, and/or hosts drop-in tutor sessions.
- Provides content-based learning activities to enrich and support course content.
- Provides study strategy suggestions and tools to enhance active learning.
- Reviews and reinforces what has been taught in classes for clarity and understanding.
- Integrates effective study and learning strategies in addition to discussing content information during student sessions to assist students in developing into successful, independent learners.
- Maintains records of student contact and submits paperwork in a timely manner.
- Becomes familiar with and uses WCOnline.
- Works collaboratively with faculty for assignment clarification and student guidance.
- Becomes familiar with D2L and how to access course materials.
- Creates and submits timely documentation regarding tutor content delivery, attendance, etc.
- Provides support and review for general assignments to support student needs.
- Directs and maintains focus of the tutorial session.
- Refines students' study skills for independent learning using individual, group, or workshop sessions; topic areas may include note-taking skills, college textbook and reading skills, goal setting, test anxiety, and time management.
- Provides mentorship, as needed, to student tutors.
- Disseminates information and refers students to other services such as academic advising, disability services, personal counseling, and career readiness services.
- Participates in tutorial training, staff meetings, and professional development as directed.
- Helps to support exam proctoring.
- Maintains professional demeanor.
- Is familiar with Code of Conduct, Code of Ethics, and other programmatic requirements.
- Participates in all required trainings.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher, while enrolled in the chiropractic doctoral program

- $21 to $25 per hour
