About the Role

The Parts Advisor sells parts to retail or wholesale customers over the counter, through the shop, or by phone. This role involves assisting walk-in customers, managing parts inventory, and supporting service technicians.

Responsibilities

  • Assist walk-in customers in selecting required parts.
  • Pull purchased parts from stock.
  • Determine availability and submit emergency orders for out-of-stock parts if requested by the customer and premium is paid.
  • Answer phone calls, providing price quotes and other information.
  • Assist outside sales representatives with their orders.
  • Set up orders for daily shipment, delivery, or pick-up.
  • Verify "will call" and "back order" files weekly and return unused items to vendors or stock them.
  • Solicit assigned accounts by phone.
  • Ensure all special-order parts are prepaid.
  • Assist service technicians in selecting parts needed for repairs.
  • Ensure all parts handed out to technicians are charged to repair orders.
  • Order parts not in stock after discussion with the Shop Foreman.
  • Notify the Service Advisor and customer when ordered parts have been received.
  • Answer the parts phone promptly and courteously.
  • Ensure technicians present a duplicate copy of the repair order before parts are charged out.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Educational Diploma (GED).
  • One year of experience in an automotive parts department.
  • One year of sales experience.
  • Ability to work well with the public, sometimes serving several customers at a time.
  • Valid New York State Driver License.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, use hands, grasp, handle or feel, push, pull, reach, crouch, bend, kneel, climb, and perform repetitive motions of the hands and/or wrists.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects up to 30 pounds occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds frequently.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information.
