About the Role

The head coach will lead and direct all aspects of a competitive intercollegiate sport, including coaching, recruitment, and potentially teaching or administrative duties. This role ensures compliance with NCAA, Conference, and Ithaca College regulations, sets season goals, supports fundraising, and engages with alumni relations.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct, and conduct in-season and out-of-season team and individual practices and competitions.
  • Design and teach proper skills, skill development, and team concepts to student athletes.
  • Promote multicultural awareness and contribute to an inclusive, diverse, and respectful college community.
  • Analyze opponent performance and develop competition strategies.
  • Oversee student athlete safety and well-being, providing instruction on physical health and safety.
  • Monitor academic progress and counsel student athletes on goal setting, academic success, life skills, and personal issues.
  • Oversee recruitment efforts, including identification and communication with prospective student athletes.
  • Present responsibilities to prospective student athletes regarding campus visits.
  • Oversee the selection, maintenance, monitoring, and evaluation of all team members.
  • Attend coaching clinics and conventions to improve coaching techniques.
  • Prepare and submit sport-related budgets and input on team travel, lodging, and meals.
  • Evaluate, select, and recommend sport-related equipment and uniforms for purchase.
  • Assist in creating practice and competition schedules.
  • Oversee the arrangement of officials for home competitions.
  • Identify and resolve athletic facility concerns, particularly safety issues.
  • Participate in identifying and selecting assistant coaching candidates and supervise their performance.
  • Engage in fundraising projects and promote the athletics program.
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings.
  • Serve on College committees and national/regional sports committees.
  • Complete and submit assigned reports, including the sport-related annual report.
  • Meet with supervisor to review evaluations and establish personal and professional goals.
  • Perform other related duties, potentially including teaching or administrative assignments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum of 2 years coaching experience.
  • Knowledge of and interest in men's and women's sports.
  • Experience scheduling and coordinating special events or athletic contests.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, monitor, and reconcile departmental and program budgets.
  • Ability to cultivate an inclusive, diverse, and welcoming environment.
  • Ability to treat all people equitably with sensitivity to cultural differences.
  • Demonstrated ability to hold others accountable for behavior supportive of a diverse and inclusive community.
  • Extensive knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software applications.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Must be completed within two academic years: Master's degree (preferred).
