About the Role
Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, administers nursing care to a diverse multicultural injured, convalescent, or disabled pediatric/adult patients; safely administers specific medications to patients.
Responsibilities
- Treats all children, families and co-workers with respect & courtesy
- Demonstrates and models sensitivity to cultural background of children, families and co-workers
- Honors Sanctuary Commitments in all day to day activities
- Provides nursing care to multiple pediatric residents
- Follows direction of Registered Nurse
- Performs accurate physical assessment of patients, including vital signs
- Documents nurse findings in electronic medical record (Smartcare)
- Communicates with treatment team and parents as needed
- Identifies potential health and safety risks and communicates immediately with Registered Nurse and/or Chief Nurse to resolve issues/concerns
- Documents medication administration in medication administration record
- Completes Staff injury report per Agency guidelines
- Provides input into the Daily Health Center report as requested
- Completes other documentation as requested
- Works effectively with others
- Flexible and accommodating in unplanned or crisis situations
- Seeks and accepts help and direction when necessary
- Actively participates in team discussions and cooperates with follow through on plans
- Works collaboratively with others on special projects as assigned

Requirements
- Licensed Practical Nurse, New York State Licensed Practical Nurse
- Basic Life Support (BLS) current certification
- Experience with pediatric nursing in a residential facility setting preferred
- Professional demeanor
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Able to accept direction of a Registered Nurse
- Perform nursing tasks within a framework
- Strong medication administration skills
- Strong nursing clinical skills: physical/mental/emotional assessment skills to gather measurements/data; collect signs and symptoms for the health care team
- Experience with trauma preferred
- Ability to adhere to our organization’s core values
- Demonstrated emotional stability to cope with human suffering, emergencies, and other stressors
- Background in Pediatric and Family Nursing; Community Health; Patient-Family Relations (Customer Relations) preferred
- NYS Driver’s License preferred
- Ability to adhere access and utilize ADP app on smartphone or other device for access to agency programs
- Must participate in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training which concludes with a written and verbal test, and be evaluated on conducting a proper physical restraint
- Ability to reach, walk, climb stairs, bend, and kneel with or without reasonable accommodation
