About the Role
The Kitchen Assistant supports the Food Service Manager and Cook #2 in the distribution, service, and clean-up of the meal program to ensure the independence and dignity of senior residents.
Responsibilities
- Clean and sanitize food service areas, including equipment, kitchen, storage, and dining spaces.
- Perform dishwashing, pot washing, and other assigned cleaning duties.
- Assist with meal service setup and distribution.
- Support food preparation while adhering to NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene safety procedures.
- Receive food deliveries and ensure proper storage according to health regulations.
- Label, date, and rotate food stock.
- Collaborate with supervisors to discuss food service procedures and best practices.
- Maintain a high level of care, respect, and communication with residents.
- Work cooperatively with all staff and kitchen team members.
- Communicate resident progress, needs, and issues to appropriate staff.
- Attend required training sessions and conferences.
- Implement emergency procedures as necessary.
- Work independently when required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum 4 years of relevant cooking/kitchen experience if lacking a GED.
- Minimum 6 months of experience as a Kitchen Assistant or Dishwasher.
- Proven cooking experience in a commercial kitchen serving 20 or more people.
- Active NYC food handler's certification.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to climb stairs.
- Ability to lift at least 25 lbs.
- Ability to perform physical tasks including bending, pushing, pulling, and extended walking.

Work Type

- 35 hours per week
- Monday 9am-5pm
- Tuesday-Friday 9:30am-5:30pm
