About the Role

The Director of IT Commercial Management is responsible for maximizing value from IT investments through effective vendor management, commercial governance, sourcing strategy, contract management, financial optimization, and supplier performance management. The role acts as the commercial lead across the IT function, ensuring technology spend aligns with business strategy, risk appetite, and financial objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Define and implement the IT commercial management strategy.
  • Establish governance frameworks for supplier and contract management.
  • Ensure commercial decisions align with enterprise objectives and IT strategy.
  • Drive transparency of technology spend, commitments, and value realization.
  • Support M&A activities as required.
  • Manage strategic relationships with key technology partners.
  • Lead executive supplier reviews and performance management activities.
  • Develop supplier scorecards, KPIs, and continuous improvement plans.
  • Mitigate supplier concentration and dependency risks.
  • Lead major technology procurement and renewal activities.
  • Negotiate commercial terms, pricing, SLAs, and risk provisions.
  • Ensure contracts support operational, security, legal, and compliance requirements.
  • Oversee contract lifecycle management and renewal planning.
  • Partner with Finance to manage IT budgets, forecasts, and investment plans.
  • Identify and deliver sustainable cost-saving opportunities.
  • Drive optimization of software licensing, cloud consumption, and third-party services.
  • Support business case development and investment approval processes.
  • Ensure supplier compliance with security, privacy, regulatory, and audit requirements.
  • Support SOX, procurement, and governance reviews where applicable.
  • Maintain commercial risk registers and mitigation plans.
  • Build and lead a high-performing commercial management function.
  • Develop commercial capabilities across IT leaders and budget owners.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, value optimization, and supplier partnership.

Requirements

  • 10+ years' experience in IT commercial, procurement, vendor management, or technology finance leadership roles.
  • Significant experience negotiating complex technology agreements.
  • Experience managing large software, cloud, managed service, and consulting contracts.
  • Demonstrable track record delivering cost optimisation and value realisation.
  • Experience working with senior executives and external suppliers.
