About the Role
The Manager, Social Action will drive system-level change for more just and supportive communities at local, provincial, and national levels. This role involves providing strategic guidance, fostering innovation, and leading advocacy efforts to address public policy challenges related to social and economic issues.
Responsibilities
- Identify issues and risks affecting people living in poverty and develop community development and policy solutions.
- Participate in the development and monitoring of the department’s annual operational plan and budget.
- Oversee funder applications and reports to ensure quality and adherence to timelines.
- Facilitate engagement and collaboration with community partners, government representatives, and academics.
- Utilize policy research and evaluation tools to develop strategic advice and recommendations.
- Synthesize complex information into clear summaries and policy recommendations.
- Provide leadership on communications strategies to advance advocacy goals.
- Liaise with government, regulatory agencies, and NGOs to identify common goals.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships across sectors and with funders.
- Coordinate internally to align messaging and provide policy updates to colleagues.
- Support high-complexity programs critical to poverty eradication.
- Advise on strategic communications and government relations.
- Manage policy research and development in areas including poverty, housing, health, and income security.
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the Campaign 2000 office.
- Integrate Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) and anti-oppression principles into organizational practices.
- Provide presentations to internal programs on utilizing social action approaches.
Requirements
- Post-graduate degree in Social Work, Political Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role.
- Strong understanding of the policy landscape, government protocols, and trends related to poverty eradication.
- Demonstrated experience navigating complex internal and external stakeholder relationships.
- Experience developing and executing communications strategies for campaigns.
- Experience working with diverse groups and marginalized populations using community-building models.
- Proven track record in generating and stewarding successful funding proposals.
- Experience in media relations and acting as a media spokesperson.
- Knowledge of Canada Revenue Agency rules on charitable activities.
- Satisfactory Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.
