About the Role

The Product Platform Tools team builds and operates Cloudflare's internal support and admin platform, which serves as the foundation for customer-facing and operational teams. As a Systems Engineer, you will design and build the backend services, infrastructure, APIs, and integrations that power this platform at an enterprise scale. You will collaborate closely with engineering teams and non-engineering stakeholders such as Support, Legal, and Security.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and operate backend services, infrastructure, APIs, and integrations for the internal support and admin platform.
  • Partner with engineering teams to onboard their support and admin applications onto the platform.
  • Work with non-engineering stakeholders to understand operational needs and translate them into platform capabilities.
  • Own and improve the platform's security and authorization posture, ensuring compliance with access control policies and governance requirements.
  • Quickly learn unfamiliar and legacy codebases, build context across Cloudflare systems, and make improvements to reduce operational toil and enhance platform reliability.
  • Participate in on-call rotations, respond to production incidents, and conduct post-incident reviews.
  • Contribute to platform observability, developer experience, and engineering standards.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional experience building and operating production backend services at enterprise or large-scale organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience in platform engineering, internal tooling, or support/admin systems.
  • Direct experience supporting non-technical end users or customer-facing teams.
  • Strong understanding of authorization and authentication systems (e.g., OAuth 2.0, OIDC, JWT, OPA/Rego, role-based access control).
  • Security-first approach to system design.
  • Proven scalability mindset — experience designing and operating systems for a large, diverse set of internal consumers.
  • Ability to work across organizational boundaries and engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Comfortable working in unfamiliar and legacy codebases, able to ramp quickly and contribute independently.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced, hands-on experience with Kubernetes and Docker in production environments.
  • Strong database experience, including schema design, query optimization, and operating databases in high-availability production environments.
