About the Role
As a Mortgage Underwriter II, you will ensure the timely and accurate packaging of all loans originated by our Mortgage Sales Executives from file submission to closing. You will be responsible for ensuring loans meet credit union and secondary market underwriting requirements while consistently hitting established Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and supporting our strategic organizational goals.
Responsibilities
- Independently evaluate and underwrite Conventional, Home Equity, and Construction mortgage applications.
- Analyze borrower credit reports, income stability, assets, and overall debt-to-income ratios.
- Review intricate financial documents, including complex personal and business tax returns, to verify qualifying income.
- Review and assess property appraisals to ensure collateral adequacy and full compliance with secondary market and internal guidelines.
- Efficiently manage an active, fast-paced pipeline of 40 to 50 loan files simultaneously.
- Ensure all underwriting decisions and conditional approvals are made within established Service Level Agreements.
- Communicate complex underwriting decisions and clear conditions to processors, loan officers, and members.
- Partner with the sales and operations teams to streamline the loan file from initial submission to final closing.
- Stay continuously updated on federal lending regulations, investor guidelines, and industry best practices.
- Maintain strict alignment with departmental productivity and loan quality benchmarks.
Requirements
- Experience in mortgage underwriting.
- Familiarity with Conventional, Home Equity, and Construction mortgage applications.
- Knowledge of credit reports, income stability, assets, and debt-to-income ratios.
- Ability to analyze complex personal and business tax returns.
- Understanding of property appraisals and compliance with secondary market and internal guidelines.
