About the Role

This position requires the successful candidate to provide technical support and setup for all classroom technologies, including collaboration software, audio-visual equipment, and teaching podiums. The role involves maintenance, inventory management, installation of mobile devices, and support for the Voice over IP environment. Additionally, the incumbent will provide training, assist with PC/software issues, perform preventive maintenance, and act as a Project Lead for classroom technology upgrades.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all Classroom, Meeting Rooms and Bader Theatre are in good working condition for maximum efficiency prior to any room bookings.
  • Coordinate with Events and Space Management Group at Victoria daily to ensure that the setup and tear down of A/V equipment are done before and after room bookings.
  • Ensure all equipment are in good working condition, make necessary repairs, and perform routine maintenance.
  • Prepare and maintain an inventory of all equipment, ensuring loaned-out equipment is returned and in good working condition.
  • Report all malfunctioning returned equipment to the ITS Manager.
  • Provide training and assistance for staff, faculty, students, and external clients with equipment available in the rooms they have booked.
  • Recommend available equipment best suited for the user’s needs.
  • Manage and act as Project Lead on classroom technology related projects, request quotes, schedule work, and supervise contractors.
  • Propose classroom technology equipment including sound system to purchase and update on an annual basis.
  • Provide effective problem resolution and technical support services to clientele at Victoria.
  • Respond to service requests in a timely manner through ServiceNow.
  • Act as liaison between UofT’s Learning Space Management and Victoria ensuring that the technology used in academic classrooms is compatible with and supported by LSM.
  • Provide basic support and triage of network connectivity – DHCP, DNS, TCPIP for classroom technology as well as wireless access.
  • Support current operating systems - Microsoft Windows and MAC OS.
  • Support current and future collaboration technologies such MS Teams, Zoom, and others.
  • Install and set up mobile devices such as cell phones, tablets and others.
  • Ensure that users sign the Victoria University Device Agreement.
  • Keep and manage all records of user devices and other pertinent information.
  • Provide technical support for the Voice over IP environment at Victoria and act as a liaison between U of T Telecommunications group and Victoria.
  • Act as the Project Lead for any major upgrade to the Voice over IP environment at Victoria.
  • Participate as an active team member on assigned IT special projects and rollouts.
  • Provide technical coverage during non-business hours and under special circumstances.
  • Provide user training on the use of mobile devices and VoIP equipment.
  • Provide basic support for Apple IOS, and Android OS.
  • Report regularly on the status of existing active projects.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled status meetings.
  • Schedule, train and supervise student assistants who are hired to provide extra classroom technology support service.
  • Act as a backup for other members of the ITS Support team as required.
  • Participate on project teams as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must have five (5) years of experience with audio-visual, electronic classroom, computers, projection and video equipment.
  • A good knowledge of industry-standard videoconferencing and web streaming product lines as well as Voice over IP equipment and mobile devices.
  • Demonstrated experience in training faculty or professional clients in equipment use preferred.
  • Experience in standard operating software and application packages (Mac OS, Windows OS, and Microsoft Office).
  • Demonstrated ability to follow problems through to resolution.
  • Demonstrated superior telephone etiquette and strong desire to help others.
  • Ability to learn continually “on-the-job” under pressure, on own initiative, often without prior training or instructions, to keep abreast of the rapid changes in classroom technology systems, hardware, user requirements, and other dimensions of IT.
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple problems, completing each in a timely manner.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, discretion and tact.
  • Ability to work in an environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and accurately both orally and in writing, including the ability to communicate technical concepts to persons with limited technical backgrounds.
