Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the master scheduling and production planning function, overseeing a team of schedulers/planners responsible for materials flow and production timelines.
- Oversee the master production schedule and ensure comprehensive compliance with materials requirements across all manufacturing lines.
- Schedule and interface with marketing, sales, production, and engineering managers to align production capacity with business and customer demand.
- Provide strategic input to senior management to reschedule in case of design changes, labor and material shortages, backlogs, and other potential schedule interruptions.
- Direct resolution of schedule interruptions by coordinating cross-functionally with production, engineering, procurement, and materials teams.
- Oversee WIP variance management at the work order level, ensuring the team works effectively with manufacturing production and stores for timely and accurate material management.
- Approve and oversee change activity to WIP jobs at the work order level.
- Review and validate production schedules to anticipate required materials, equipment, and supplies at a program level.
- Monitor schedule compliance across production stages, proactively identify risk to on-time delivery, and escalate/resolve as needed.
- Select, develop, and evaluate scheduling/planning personnel to ensure efficient operation of the function.
- Establish and enforce scheduling standards, procedures, and best practices across the team.
- Provide regular status reporting and performance metrics to senior leadership.
- Work independently with minimal supervision while managing team workload and priorities.
Requirements
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods and occasionally walk, bend, and lift up to 25 lbs.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of master scheduling, production planning, and materials requirements planning (MRP) procedures and processes.
- Proven ability to lead, develop, and manage a team of schedulers or planners.
- Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment in resolving complex scheduling conflicts.
- Ability to interface effectively and influence across marketing, sales, production, and engineering functions.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including presenting to senior management.
- Strong MS Office skills, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Solid knowledge of MRP, Oracle, and Agile systems.
Experience Level
- 8+ years of master scheduling, production planning, or related work experience, including prior supervisory or leadership experience.
- Previous management or team lead experience required.
Education Level
- B.A./B.S. Degree or equivalent experience, or any combination of education and experience.
- Advanced experience using MRP, Oracle, and Agile systems.
- CPIM or APICS Certification preferred.
