Responsibilities

  • Conducts evaluative procedures and assesses home environment to identify equipment needs related to speech/language function.
  • Identifies functional speech defects and establishes goals and plan of care to improve patient's function.
  • Administers speech therapy programs using specialized techniques and equipment.
  • Recommends communication devices and aids as indicated.
  • Confers with referring physician and other personnel to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary group meetings, in-services, and other required meetings.
  • Prepares and submits clinical and progress records according to office policy or regulations.
  • Maintains clinical competency in speech language pathology practice and theory.
  • Instructs patient, family/caregiver, and team members on the patient's treatment regime.
  • Performs other duties as required to facilitate speech language pathology and swallowing assistive services.
  • Participates in peer consultation, quality management, and orientation for hospice personnel.
  • Actively participates in quality assessment performance improvement teams and activities.
  • May supervise hospice aide in procedures directly related to speech-language therapy.

Requirements

  • Possesses a degree including an internship from an approved masters program in Speech–Language Pathology, or as required by applicable law and/or regulation.
  • Meets the education and experience requirements for a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech–Language Pathology, granted by the American Speech–Language–Hearing Association (ASHA).
  • Certified to practice Speech–Language Pathology.
  • Possesses and maintains current CPR certification.
  • Licensed driver with an insured automobile in good working order.
  • Minimum of one (1) year's clinical experience in Speech–Language Pathology.
  • Demonstrates good verbal and written communication and organization skills.
  • Understands hospice philosophy and focus of patient care is comfort and maintenance of self in current residence.
