About the Role

The Child Care Assistant will plan and execute early childhood education experiences to promote the healthy emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development of each child. This role involves working with directors and teachers to implement curriculum, foster positive interactions, and maintain program data.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute appropriate early childhood education experiences.
• Promote the healthy emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development of each child.
• Develop and implement age-appropriate curriculum and activities with the director and teachers.
• Establish a program environment that promotes positive child and youth interactions.
• Provide and lead planned activities for program participants.
• Interact with children and youth using approved child guidance and youth development techniques.
• Interact professionally with staff members, parents, and the command.
• Assist in maintaining program participation data and completing required daily reports.
• Prepare, arrange, and maintain indoor and outdoor activity areas and materials.
• Monitor children in various locations including classrooms, playgrounds, and restrooms.
• Maintain control of and account for the whereabouts and safety of children at all times.
• Arrange for and serve appropriate snacks/meals.
• Perform routine caregiving tasks, including assisting with materials and activities, receiving children, and attending to physical needs.
• Ensure care is provided in accordance with standards.
• Conduct health checks.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of children.
• Complete reports.
• Interact with parents.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED certificate.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English.
• One year of general experience working with children in a group program.
• Possess and maintain the physical ability to lift and carry up to 45 pounds, sit and rise from the floor, walk, bend, stoop, and stand on a routine basis.
• Ability to satisfactorily complete a Tier 1 background investigation, including state checks.
• Ability to satisfactorily pass the Civilian Medical Clearance Examination.
• Residency Requirements: Non-U.S. nationals must have resided within the United States, or U.S. territories, for at least three of the last five years.
• Selectee will be required to participate in Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
• Males born after 12/31/59 and at least 18 years of age must be registered with the Selective Service System, unless exempted.
• Must satisfactorily complete a Federal Background check and all pre-employment requirements.
• Applicants may not be employed in the chain of command of their relatives.
• Resume or application must clearly demonstrate required experience and/or education.
• Submit a resume or any other written format in English.
• Resume should clearly identify announcement number, title, and pay band.
• Resume should include full name, mailing address, country of citizenship, highest Federal grade or NAF pay band held (if applicable), a statement requiring proof of veterans’ preference, education, and relevant work experience including start/end dates, supervisor’s name and phone number, salary and title, series and grade if experience was with a non-appropriated fund instrumentality of the Federal government.
