About the Role
PrizePicks is seeking a Data Engineer to build and maintain the data infrastructure that supports analytics, machine learning, and business intelligence. This entry-level position offers the opportunity to work on well-defined pipeline and data tasks under guidance, developing skills across the data engineering stack and contributing to a modern lakehouse platform.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute data engineering tasks, including creating/modifying data models, writing ingestion scripts, and updating transformations.
- Orchestrate data flow through the medallion lakehouse architecture (Landing-Bronze-Silver-Gold).
- Deploy, execute, and monitor data jobs and workflows, responding to failures during on-call rotations.
- Author Python and SQL code adhering to team conventions for style, structure, and testing.
- Adhere to team standards for model organization, naming, and documentation.
- Conduct code reviews, providing and receiving constructive feedback.
- Implement unit tests and adopt best practices for data pipeline test coverage.
- Own assigned pipeline tasks, ensuring completion and communicating blockers proactively.
- Collaborate actively in agile rituals and team discussions.
- Document technical builds, including models, runbooks, and decisions, and share learnings.
- Partner with Analytics, MLE, and Product stakeholders to understand data usage and identify areas for improvement.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Good knowledge of Python, including scripting, data structures, and following coding style guides.
- Experience working with cloud environments (GCP, AWS, Azure).
- Familiarity with SQL, including writing queries, understanding joins, and reading schemas.
- Familiarity with data engineering concepts such as ETL/ELT, APIs, and data pipelines.
- Curiosity about data systems and a desire to understand the full stack.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Ownership mindset, taking responsibility for assigned tasks and following through reliably.
- Authorization to work for any employer in the U.S.
