About the Role

The Special Education Co-Teacher supports students with significant cognitive and developmental disabilities within the RISE (Reaching Independence through Support and Education) program. This role focuses on functional curriculum instruction, daily living skills, and vocational training to prepare students for adult life, working in low student-teacher ratios.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the educational and social development of students under the direction of facilitators and teachers
• Implement Individual Education Plans and monitor student progress
• Provide individual student support inside and outside the classroom
• Collaborate with speech therapists, social workers, and occupational/physical therapists
• Assist teachers with maintaining student records
• Support students with emotional or behavioral concerns and social skill development
• Provide assistance with daily living tasks including feeding, lifting, and toileting
• Accompany students on school buses before or after school at select campuses

Requirements

• At least 48 college hours
• Experience working with children with cognitive or pervasive developmental disabilities preferred
• Willingness to pursue Special Education teaching certification preferred
• Ability to physically assist students with positioning, lifting, transferring, and restraining
