About the Role

The Unit Coordinator maintains a positive work environment while performing customer service, clerical, and reception duties to support unit workflow and effective operation. This role involves utilizing specialized knowledge for unit functions.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and maintain patient records, filling data and obtaining reports necessary for departmental operations.
  • Greet and assist visitors courteously.
  • Utilize clinical and patient information systems to support patient care delivery.
  • Coordinate department communications, accepting and screening telephone calls appropriately.
  • Assist in the orientation of new administrative support staff.
  • Maintain adequate supplies of current forms, unit supplies, and equipment, and troubleshoot office equipment.
  • Assist in scheduling using the Shift Wizard System and manage timecards/payroll via the Kronos system.
  • Demonstrate professional business etiquette.
  • Relay patient and healthcare member requests to other unit members.
  • Respond to individual patient/family needs appropriate to age and characteristics of the patient group served.
  • Monitor, respond to, and follow through on patient call bell system and patient/family requests.
  • Collaborate with other departments to facilitate admissions, discharges, and transfers.
  • Assist the unit RN coordinator in updating Enterprise Visibility for appropriate patient bed placements.
  • Enter patient charges in Soarian Financials and coordinate with billing for patient billing and charges.
  • Perform environmental control, revenue reconciliation, inventory management, data entry processing, and troubleshooting.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/G.E.D. required.
  • 1-3 years healthcare or clerical experience required.
  • Ability to coordinate and work as a team member with various disciplines and departments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively on a wide range of issues with internal and/or external customers, and initiate follow-up actions.
  • Ability to work with others to accomplish a task or goal, be flexible in work practices, procedures, and/or processes, and work efficiently with others to find solutions.
  • Ability to prioritize, work independently, and perform all tasks in a timely manner.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as dollar totals, monetary conversions, discounts, interest, fractions, decimals, percentages, area, and volume.
  • Ability to solve technical and practical problems and deal with various intangibles in situations where only limited communication, support, information, and access exist.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Basic word processing, computer input, and retrieval skills (order entry).
  • Ability to function within Microsoft Office programs.
  • Strong phone etiquette, customer service, and public relations skills.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic knowledge of office equipment (fax machine, copy machine, scanner).
  • Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
  • Must adhere to policies regarding access, use, and protection of sensitive information, including HIPAA Protected Health Information.
