About the Role

Nationally certified Advanced Practice Provider who provides primary and/or specialty care in a variety of healthcare settings. Functions in collaboration with the health care team in accordance with certification and licensure. Practice emphasizes health promotion, disease prevention and the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic health problems. Responsible for dissemination of knowledge through instructing, leading and developing educational programs.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts thorough medical histories and performs complete physical examinations.
  • Initiates appropriate lab, radiology tests, or other special tests for illness evaluation.
  • Scrutinizes lab data to establish the patient's current health status and develop a diagnosis and treatment plan.
  • Works in collaboration with the health care team.
  • Performs and interprets common laboratory, radiologic, cardiographic, and other routine diagnostic procedures as credentialed and privileged.
  • Performs routine and specialized procedures as credentialed and privileged.
  • May prescribe and monitor medications as allowed by license and policy.
  • Educates patients and answers questions regarding their disease, treatments, and related side effects.
  • Participates in medical team rounds and collaborates with healthcare team members.
  • Refers patients to specialists for consultation or specialized treatment.
  • Ensures continuity of care by serving as a liaison between patient and the multi-disciplinary care team.
  • Participates in quality monitoring through review of records and treatment plans.
  • Facilitates appropriate length of stay, discharge planning, and compliance with regulatory standards for inpatient management.
  • Supports professional development of the health care team.
  • Promotes translation of evidence-based practices, guidelines, and research.
  • May conduct research studies, assist in data collection and analysis.
  • May serve as a clinical preceptor for students and onboard new caregivers.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Provides inpatient consult and outpatient support for Hematology and Oncology services.
  • Conducts new Hematology consults, Hematology and Oncology follow-up visits, and Infusion Suite coverage.
  • Manages antineoplastics, antineoplastic prescribing, and performs bone marrow biopsies.
  • Provides inpatient consults for Hematology and Oncology new cases and subsequent follow-ups.
  • Participates in tumor board discussions and documentation.
  • Handles peer-to-peer reviews and other assigned responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Oral and written communication in English.
  • Excellent analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated competency and ability to perform advanced assessment and diagnosis.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize the electronic medical record.
  • High standard of moral and ethical behavior.
  • Compassion, professionalism, and commitment to excellent patient care.
  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Related clinical experience preferred.
  • Ability to walk and stand for long periods.
  • Manual and finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination for physical examinations.
  • Corrected vision and hearing within a normal range.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
  • Must obtain an annual influenza vaccination or an approved exemption.
  • Must have arrangements with at least one physician in accordance with state board of nursing requirements.
  • Must be credentialed and privileged by the Medical Executive Committee and the Governing Body of the applicable hospitals.
  • Must have a Physician Supervision Agreement and signed addendum for PA positions.
  • New graduates will not be considered.
