About the Role

Matrix New World Engineering seeks an Environmental Engineer, Scientist, or Geologist I for its NYC office to lead project and field work, including environmental site assessments and investigations. The role requires at least 2 years of experience, project leadership, staff training, and strong interpersonal and writing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Complete site investigations to determine the nature and extent of contaminated soil, soil vapor, sediment, groundwater, and other media.
  • Complete Phase I Environmental Site Assessments.
  • Participate in all aspects of site investigation and remediation, from workplan preparation to final remedial documents.
  • Assist with the preparation of technical reports, specifications, and plans.
  • Assist with training entry level staff.
  • Oversee subcontractors during field activities like soil boring advancement and remedial construction.
  • Perform Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessments in accordance with ASTM E1527.
  • Supervise junior staff and perform peer reviews.
  • Prepare summary reports including reviewing laboratory analytical data and preparing tables, logs, figures, and text.
  • Provide environmental construction field management, including community air monitoring and remedial construction oversight.

Requirements

  • BS in Environmental Engineering, or related engineering degree, or Environmental Science, Geology or related science degree.
  • 3+ years of environmental consulting experience.
  • Experience performing Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and Phase II Environmental Site Investigations, including sampling.
  • Proficiency in logging borings and describing soil lithology based on the Burmister soil classification system.
  • Working knowledge of NYSDEC Rules, Regulations and Guidance documents including DER-10, Part 360, and Part 375 Regulations.
  • Knowledge of the principles and standards of scientific study, field investigation and sampling, and research and documentation.
  • OSHA 40-Hour Training and 8-hour refreshers.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, with a clean driving record.
  • Willing to travel and conduct field work in all boroughs of NYC, Westchester, and Long Island.
  • Experience working effectively with team members as well as independently.
  • Strong quantitative/math and analytical skills.
  • Core competency in Microsoft Office Products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Must be able to wear a respirator.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test and will be subject to DOT regulated random drug testing.
