About the Role

The Social Studies Teacher is responsible for implementing, developing, and executing instruction of the Goodwill Excel Center vocational curriculum. This role employs a student-centered approach, tailoring instructional strategies to individual student needs with creativity and innovation. The teacher will collaborate with the instructional team to meet educational objectives and adhere to Texas Essential Knowledge & Skills (TEKS) standards.

Responsibilities

Provide instruction in Social Studies courses, ensuring mastery of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).
Develop and revise curriculum, including lesson plans, projects, and assessments aligned with The Excel Center and TEKS standards.
Assess student progress and learning needs to inform and shape instruction.
Utilize attendance, grades, and assessment data to refine lessons and achieve learning goals.
Implement a clear and consistent classroom management system that supports student character and community development.
Support all students in achieving academic success and character growth.
Provide tutorials for students to ensure material mastery.
Document and maintain attendance, grades, and progress records according to District policy.
Create a positive classroom environment conducive to learning and educational growth.
Participate in collaborative curriculum development, grade/ability-level activities, and school-wide functions.
Attend and participate in all staff, team, and professional development meetings and activities.
Participate in evaluations and self-studies as required by the Texas Education Agency (TEA).
Serve on curriculum, instructional, textbooks, and other committees as assigned.
Administer diagnostic placement tests, achievement tests, curriculum tests, and other tests as required.
Demonstrate progress in meeting student performance targets and assigned action plans.
Develop, use, and evaluate innovative approaches to improve performance.
Keep informed of and comply with policies of The Goodwill Excel Center, WSD, and TDCJ.
Comply with policies established by federal and state law, including State Board of Education and local Board policy.
Follow all unit procedures for checking out materials, supplies, and equipment.
Report any defective equipment and/or student abuse of materials, supplies, or equipment.
Assist district and campus teams with outreach and engagement events.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Current Texas Teaching Certification in Social Studies (HS Grades).
Proven record of results demonstrating the ability to increase student achievement using subject-specific instructional strategies.
Broad knowledge of principles and practices of current educational trends in curriculum and instruction.
Working knowledge of computer programs and internet applications (Student Information Systems, Microsoft Products, Google Applications, Internet Explorer).
Excellent oral & written communication skills; ability to convey ideas & instructions clearly & concisely.
Skill to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Skill in organizing and maintaining accurate records.
Possess the essential mindset that all students can achieve at high levels.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and motivate diverse populations.
Demonstrated commitment to supporting adult learners in achieving their educational and career goals.
Understanding of marginalization and its impact on those Goodwill serves and employs.
Respect for diversity of thought and experience to advance it in teams/organization.
Pre-employment background check and fingerprinting required.
Pre-employment drug testing required for positions entering correctional facilities.
