About the Role

Our Engineering team builds the technology behind Nubank's financial products, focusing on state-of-the-art software development practices. We are looking for a software engineer to focus on backend development, primarily using Clojure, with opportunities to contribute to mobile and frontend development as needed. We value collaboration, pragmatic innovation, and a process-light organization that empowers small, independent teams.

Responsibilities

Develop horizontally scalable microservices using Clojure, Finagle, functional programming, and hexagonal architecture.
Implement high throughput jobs and inter-service communication with Kafka.
Manage Continuous Integration and Deployment into AWS.
Utilize Datomic and DynamoDB for data storage.
Implement monitoring and observability with Prometheus.
Deploy and manage services on Kubernetes.
Work with large-scale distributed systems and understand their architecture.
Set technical direction for multiple teams, ensuring alignment with business strategies.
Drive innovation while ensuring scalable and resilient solutions.
Mentor engineers and maintain a high technical bar.
Write, test, instrument, document, and maintain code, participating in code reviews.
Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering leaders.
Ensure comprehensive observability, performance monitoring, and error handling.
Participate in on-call rotations and respond to incidents.
Focus on backend applications, with openness to mobile and frontend contributions.

Requirements

At least 10 years of experience developing digital products in complex environments.
Deep expertise in distributed systems, microservices architecture, and cloud technologies.
Proven track record of designing and delivering large-scale systems.
Strong background in object-oriented or functional programming languages.
Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives across multiple teams without direct authority.
Experience mentoring senior engineers.
Practical knowledge of agile software development methodologies.
Previous experience with CI/CD.
Good communication skills to prevent risks and explain trade-offs.
Advanced English skills.
