About the Role
The Group Exercise Instructor (GXI) will lead members through pre-arranged exercises designed to enhance fitness, strength, and endurance, while ensuring safety. The GXI will also serve as a resource for fitness education and report to the Regional Fitness Programming Manager.
Responsibilities
- Arrive 10-15 minutes early to interact with members, answer questions, and orient new participants.
- Know participants individually and assess their fitness capabilities.
- Prepare appropriate music without offensive language.
- Ensure all equipment is functioning correctly and microphones are ready.
- Participate in events to promote class formats.
- Introduce yourself and the class format.
- Assess fitness levels of first-time participants privately.
- Ensure clear verbal instructions and a conducive atmosphere for learning and fun.
- Continuously monitor participants for correct form and offer variations for all fitness levels.
- Create a motivational and fun environment.
- Uphold company mission and values by delivering classes that meet or exceed standards.
- Engage in opportunities to positively interact with members.
- Remove music and return microphones after class.
- Ensure the room is in order for the next class.
- Answer participant questions and concerns after class.
- Solicit feedback from participants.
- Ensure classes begin and end promptly.
- Make adjustments to class flow to adhere to the schedule.
- Follow closing procedures if teaching the last class of the day.
- Find a qualified substitute if unable to fulfill a scheduled class and notify the GXD.
- Be dependable and consistent in class schedules, minimizing cancellations or substitutions.
- Attend all required staff meetings.
- Follow proper time recording procedures.
- Prepare incident and/or witness reports as necessary.
- Maintain a positive and professional attitude.
- Promote adherence to COVID-19/CDC guidelines, Fitness Connection, and its Group Exercise program.
Requirements
- Instructors must provide verifiable proof of education/certification for specialized skill formats.
- Must have company-approved current national GXI certification.
- Must have/obtain CPR AED certification and basic first-aid training.
- Ability to operate and troubleshoot audio equipment.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common business-related documents.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints.
- Ability to effectively present information to members.
