About the Role

The Contracts Manager is responsible for managing legal and contractual matters across all UMPG companies and repertoire, while also providing contract management, administrative, and general support to the Legal and Business Affairs department.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain department Options Diaries, Advances schedule, and other contract management documentation and systems.
  • Prepare and maintain RADAR documents, including UMPG Top Earners, UMPG Main Radar & Universal Production Music Radar.
  • Monitor, track, and communicate contractual fulfillments, including product release matters.
  • Manage all matters related to option take-ups, deal extensions, and expiries.
  • Draft and issue side letters and contractual amendments, liaising with external third parties.
  • Lead the Option meeting process, including preparation, attendance, and follow-up on action points.
  • Prepare for and attend UK Administration meetings, including royalty close meetings and quarterly royalty payment reviews.
  • Review contracts in response to internal and external requests.
  • Inform the Licensing Department of required contractual clearances and consents.
  • Handle reduced/gratis rate mechanical licensing requests.
  • Conduct due diligence for acquisition deals.
  • Address general contract and administration queries via phone and email.
  • Answer contractual queries from internal departments and third parties regarding UMPG agreements and licenses.
  • Instruct and assist the UK and International Copyright and Admin team on reversion, copyright protection, and duplicate copyright claims for the UMPG UK catalogue.
  • Manage relationships with UMPG stakeholders and third-party licensees.
  • Work with the Business Affairs Assistant and provide cover as needed.
  • Perform other ad-hoc duties as they arise.

Requirements

  • Educated to degree standard or equivalent.
  • Experience in dealing with commercial contracts.
  • Experience with and understanding of intellectual property.
  • Confident in liaising with and presenting to senior management.
  • Excellent written skills and knowledge of grammar.
  • Previous experience of high-volume administrative duties in a high-pressure office environment.
  • Ability to prioritize workload independently and make decisions quickly.
  • High attention to detail while handling commercial expectations and prioritizing.
  • Professional telephone manner.
  • Ability to deal with queries effectively and efficiently.
  • Time management and personal organization skills.
  • Determination to see tasks through to completion.
  • Good understanding of office IT (Word, Outlook, Excel).
