About the Role

The Grain Operations Manager is responsible for meeting or exceeding quality standards by managing all aspects of grain crop production, from planting to harvesting, to ensure high-quality yields.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise full-time and seasonal Crops Team Associates involved in grain production.
  • Provide input on fertilization and crop maintenance programs to positively impact crop production.
  • Coordinate manure and fertilizer application, ensuring record maintenance and CAFO plan compliance.
  • Coordinate and assist with tilling and land preparation for planting.
  • Coordinate and assist with planting procedures to ensure product quality.
  • Assist in maintaining weed control and crop inspection programs, including record keeping.
  • Coordinate harvesting and trucking procedures, maintaining a valid CDL A license.
  • Administer food safety standards for supervised employees and maintain associated records.
  • Provide input for crop rotation and seed purchasing decisions.
  • Coordinate ordering and delivery of crop inputs.
  • Continuously develop and share knowledge of tilling, planting, and land preparation techniques.
  • Be available on-call as seasons and weather dictate.
  • Ensure high-quality crop production that meets user expectations and maximizes profitability.
  • Make equipment purchasing recommendations.
  • Oversee preventative maintenance and repairs of crop production equipment.
  • Maintain and utilize technological equipment and procedures.
  • Follow all prescribed regulatory procedures and maintain required records.
  • Prioritize job tasks to meet or exceed departmental standards without sacrificing quality or safety.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Ensure employees have necessary licenses to operate equipment and that they are kept current.
  • Address concerns and rectify problems with landowners and neighboring farms.
  • Coordinate contractor activities related to grain production facilities and land.
  • Manage crop production expenses, including equipment repair, maintenance, and land upkeep.
  • Communicate company and department vision to employees and foster two-way communication.
  • Share department results, recognize achievements, and provide timely feedback to employees.
  • Ensure employee needs are met, including training and benefits, and comply with company policies and laws.
  • Teach, encourage, and trust employees with new responsibilities and monitor their progress.
  • Lead by example, educate others, and ensure up-to-date performance reviews and fair feedback.
  • Provide feedback on training programs and identify areas for improvement.
  • Maintain two-way communication with management and team members.
  • Act as a team player, supporting and encouraging co-workers.
  • Cooperate with employees through flexibility, cross-training, and reassignment as needed.
  • Practice safety and comply with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Requirements

  • Leadership experience working with a crop and field team.
  • Aptitude and understanding of crop programs, including irrigation, fertility, pest control, weed control, and soil amendments.
  • Strong communication, organizational, team building, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment/process problems and propose solutions.
  • Knowledge of crop technological tools.
  • Basic MS Office skills.
  • Must maintain a valid CDL A license.
  • Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs.
  • Ability to work in an industrial setting with typical industrial noise levels.
