About the Role
Student Nurse Externs will provide direct personal support to patients, focusing on basic care needs and documentation. This role operates under the supervision of Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses, ensuring adherence to department policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct personal support to patients.
- Provide basic care (activities of daily living such as bathing, toileting, feeding, etc.) for up to 10 patients each.
- Work under the supervision of Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses.
- Document activities of daily living (ADLs), such as intake and output.
- Communicate relevant information for patients receiving care.
- Immediately report any clinical concerns to their direct supervisor.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in years 2-4 of a nursing program.
- Current CPR certification required.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Exceptional customer service skills.
- Must be a team player.
- Ability to accurately and effectively communicate with inter-professional healthcare team members.
- Demonstrates understanding of the use of technology.
- Ability to provide basic assistive care with frequent supervision and ongoing mentoring.
- Mandatory compliance with HRH training: Privacy & Confidentiality, WHMIS, Fire & Safety, hand hygiene modules.
- Good work attendance.
- An understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion principles as they relate to health practices is an asset.
