About the Role
Finger Lakes Animal Hospital is looking for a compassionate, motivated Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our two-doctor small animal and exotic practice in Canandaigua, New York. We offer a wide variety of cases and services, including dentistry, surgery, anesthesia, laser therapy, ultrasound, exotic animal care, and more. This is a great opportunity for a Licensed Veterinary Technician who enjoys variety, wants to stay hands-on, and is excited to continue building their skills.
Responsibilities
- Triage patients and obtain thorough medical histories, vital signs, and patient assessments
- Safely handle and restrain small animal and exotic patients
- Prepare and administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed
- Perform venipuncture, catheter placement, fluid therapy, and sample collection
- Run in-house laboratory testing, including CBCs, chemistry panels, urinalysis, cytology, and fecal testing
- Prepare patients and equipment for surgical and dental procedures
- Monitor anesthesia and patient vital signs throughout procedures
- Maintain complete and accurate anesthesia and treatment records
- Assist with diagnostic imaging, ultrasound, laser therapy, and other hospital services
- Provide attentive nursing care throughout treatment and recovery
- Educate clients with compassion, clarity, and confidence
- Accurately document patient care, treatments, and client communication in the medical record
- Collaborate with veterinarians and support staff to keep the hospital running smoothly
Requirements
- Current New York State Veterinary Technician license
- Strong understanding of preventive care, vaccines, and common medical conditions
- Confidence with patient triage and obtaining thorough medical histories
- Safe, compassionate, and effective patient-handling skills
- Experience with venipuncture, catheter placement, laboratory testing, and anesthesia monitoring
- Strong communication and client-education skills
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accurate medical records
- Ability to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced environment
- Dependable work habits and strong time-management skills
- Positive attitude and willingness to ask for or offer help
- Genuine passion for veterinary medicine and continued learning
