About the Role

Finger Lakes Animal Hospital is looking for a compassionate, motivated Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our two-doctor small animal and exotic practice in Canandaigua, New York. We offer a wide variety of cases and services, including dentistry, surgery, anesthesia, laser therapy, ultrasound, exotic animal care, and more. This is a great opportunity for a Licensed Veterinary Technician who enjoys variety, wants to stay hands-on, and is excited to continue building their skills.

Responsibilities

  • Triage patients and obtain thorough medical histories, vital signs, and patient assessments
  • Safely handle and restrain small animal and exotic patients
  • Prepare and administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed
  • Perform venipuncture, catheter placement, fluid therapy, and sample collection
  • Run in-house laboratory testing, including CBCs, chemistry panels, urinalysis, cytology, and fecal testing
  • Prepare patients and equipment for surgical and dental procedures
  • Monitor anesthesia and patient vital signs throughout procedures
  • Maintain complete and accurate anesthesia and treatment records
  • Assist with diagnostic imaging, ultrasound, laser therapy, and other hospital services
  • Provide attentive nursing care throughout treatment and recovery
  • Educate clients with compassion, clarity, and confidence
  • Accurately document patient care, treatments, and client communication in the medical record
  • Collaborate with veterinarians and support staff to keep the hospital running smoothly

Requirements

  • Current New York State Veterinary Technician license
  • Strong understanding of preventive care, vaccines, and common medical conditions
  • Confidence with patient triage and obtaining thorough medical histories
  • Safe, compassionate, and effective patient-handling skills
  • Experience with venipuncture, catheter placement, laboratory testing, and anesthesia monitoring
  • Strong communication and client-education skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accurate medical records
  • Ability to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced environment
  • Dependable work habits and strong time-management skills
  • Positive attitude and willingness to ask for or offer help
  • Genuine passion for veterinary medicine and continued learning
