About the Role

Peraton is seeking a full-time Background Investigator near Austin, TX. This role is critical for conducting government background investigations to determine employment suitability for individuals requiring access to sensitive U.S. Government information.

Responsibilities

  • Complete a 6-7 week new Investigator training program, virtually and in-person, to be certified in Federal Investigative Standards.
  • Travel daily to conduct in-person background investigations.
  • Schedule and conduct face-to-face interviews with subjects, neighbors, employers, friends, and family.
  • Perform record searches at police agencies, courthouses, educational institutions, financial institutions, and medical/mental health facilities.
  • Type and report all obtained information clearly and concisely using a government-issued computer system.
  • Work independently and as part of a team of Investigators and with a Field Manager.

Requirements

  • Reside within 50 miles of Austin, TX city center.
  • Possess 4 years of general work experience or a bachelor's degree.
  • Be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret eligible clearance.
  • Be a U.S. citizen.
  • Be able to travel daily locally and outside of the primary work area as needed.
  • Maintain a home office.
  • Be available for Temporary Duty Assignments (TDY)/remote travel ranging from 14-30 days away from home per TDY.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and use reliable transportation.
  • Carry sufficient motor vehicle insurance.
  • Type accurately and efficiently (40+ WPM recommended).
  • Be able to work within multiple computer programs concurrently.
  • Be able to speak for extended periods and hear sufficiently for communication.
  • Be able to record, read, and transcribe words and numbers with high accuracy.
  • Possess proficient grammar and writing skills for high-quality reports with minimal errors.
  • Be able to interact professionally with others.
  • Be able to write for long periods.
  • Meet expectations for attendance and punctuality.
  • Be able to pay attention to details while conducting fieldwork.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality, ethics, and integrity.
  • Adhere to professional attire requirements.
  • Be able to lift and move up to 10 pounds, climb stairs, walk extensively, stand for long periods, and drive in adverse or night conditions.
