About the Role

The Operations Technical Lead will drive the technical direction for services and integrations within the operations domain, ensuring seamless operation of internal systems and third-party platforms to support business order and fulfillment. This role involves translating business needs into technical solutions, championing engineering standards, and identifying continuous improvement opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Providing hands-on technical advice, code reviews and practical guidance to the team
  • Managing a team of developers and quality engineers, including setting goals and priorities, providing technical guidance and mentorship, and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Proactively driving continuous improvement to team performance and outcome quality.
  • Ensuring solutions meet all necessary business requirements, architectural principles and applicable security and technical standards.
  • Maintaining effective technical documentation.
  • Owning the team’s technical backlog and working closely with the Product Owner to champion technical work during planning sessions.
  • Participating in the development of system features or supporting automation, as required.
  • Promote best practices, support cross-team alignment, and contribute to the technical community.

Requirements

  • Strong practical experience working with commerce systems, leading engineering teams, and experience in software development, with a focus on cloud technologies.
  • Proven experience integrating third-party services and platforms.
  • End-to-end SDLC experience with solid architectural design knowledge.
  • Experience in building scalable and secure cloud-based applications and infrastructure using AWS technologies, including Lambda, SQS, API Gateway and Dynamo DB.
  • A keen awareness of architectural design patterns including eventing and microservices.
  • Experience designing and integrating REST and GraphQL APIs, including webhooks and OAuth.
  • A track record of leading and delivering complex initiatives involving multiple systems and partners.
  • Experience with Shopify would be a bonus, but isn't essential.
  • Communicate clearly and confidently with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Take ownership, speak up when something isn’t right, and work collaboratively across teams.
  • Enjoy solving complex problems and improving how systems work together.
  • Be proactive, open to change, and focused on quality and continuous improvement.
  • Be curious about new technologies and interested in AI and emerging capabilities.
  • Have a strong sense of accountability and technical excellence.
  • Be confident influencing stakeholders and external partners to achieve better outcomes.
