About the Role
STOFFDACH is a Berlin-based studio for textile architecture and sun protection. We plan, measure, and install sun sails, awnings, large umbrellas, and catering umbrellas, from private terraces to cruise ships. We are looking for skilled sailmakers to apply their craft to textile architecture.
Responsibilities
- Install and tension sun sails, including adjusting fabric tension, rigging sails, and properly fitting fittings and tensioning elements.
- Install masts, supports, and posts, including foundations.
- Drill, anchor, and align wall brackets.
- Install and commission awnings and large umbrellas.
- Perform on-site measurements and technical clarifications, utilizing expertise in fabric behavior, wind, and load directions.
- Perform seasonal dismantling and reassembly, maintenance, and repair of existing installations, including minor fabrication work.
- Conduct customer acceptances and provide feedback to the planning department.
Requirements
- Completed training as a sailmaker (m/f/d) or textile and fashion sewer with experience in garment production, or comparable practical experience from sailmaking, yacht building, or tarpaulin construction.
- Proficient in handling fabric, seams, fittings, ropes, and tensioning systems; splicing and rigging skills are advantageous.
- Understanding of wind loads, fabric tension, and material behavior.
- Physically resilient and comfortable with heights (ladders, scaffolding, aerial work platforms).
- Reliable and team-oriented.
- Valid driver's license Class B.
- No electrician license required; interest in drives and controls will be taught.
