About the Role

Under the supervision of the Food Service Manager, the Cook I will be responsible for the preparation, serving, and clean-up of meals.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and create meals following standardized recipes.
  • Document food, freezer, and refrigerator temperatures.
  • Follow proper portion and serving guidelines.
  • Assist in accepting and storing food deliveries according to NYC Department of Health regulations.
  • Distribute meals to residents adhering to food safety guidelines, proper food temperatures, no salt added, and no sugar added.
  • Clean the work area, equipment, kitchen, storage, and dining area.
  • Follow all food safety procedures outlined by NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
  • Meet with supervisors regularly to discuss food service.
  • Assist in monitoring the dining room during meals.
  • Cover for Cook II when needed.
  • Assist in the clean-up of all food service areas, including dishwashing and trash removal.
  • Work as a team member to establish and maintain an elevated level of care, respect, and communication with residents.
  • Work cooperatively with other staff members.
  • Share information about resident progress, needs, and problems with appropriate staff.
  • Attend training sessions and conferences as required for job skill enhancement.
  • Implement emergency procedures as necessary.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a commercial kitchen.
  • Ability to prepare nutritious and appealing meals.
  • Ability to follow kitchen procedures and protocols.
  • Proficient written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational ability, time management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Team focused and ability to work effectively with others.
  • Desire or interest in working with and supporting senior residents.
