About the Role

Wayside Schools is seeking a High School English Teacher to plan, organize, and present activities that contribute to the educational, social, and physical development of scholars. This role requires considerable judgment, tact, patience, sensitivity, and flexibility to work with students from varied backgrounds and learning styles, demanding creativity and adaptive thinking to match teaching objectives with student abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction to a class, individual students, or groups of students using various methods.
  • Plan lessons, including preparing learning objectives and goals, designing assessments, and studying material.
  • Facilitate learning by maintaining discipline, encouraging participation, and consulting with parents and staff.
  • Evaluate student performance.
  • Maintain records and document student progress, including grades and absences.
  • Perform duties pertaining to area of expertise as required.
  • Maintain contact with parents regarding student performance through conferences and reports.
  • Engage in professional development through classes, conferences, and journals.
  • Perform administrative activities such as attending meetings and ordering supplies.
  • Prepare lesson materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Monitor student behavior inside and outside the classroom.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Perform other duties assigned by supervisor.
  • Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behavior.
  • Articulate the district’s mission and goals to the community and solicit support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Valid Texas Teaching Certificate preferred.
  • Bilingual preferred.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current education and instructional theories, methodologies, techniques, and principles.
  • Knowledge of subject matter.
  • Knowledge of state, local, and federal laws and regulations affecting students.
  • Strong understanding of social and emotional needs, development, and learning.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a positive classroom culture.
  • Ability to communicate effectively using a variety of media.
  • Ability to work with others as a team.
  • Ability to organize and maintain records.
  • Ability to manage time and resources effectively and efficiently.
  • Ability to evaluate performance and provide constructive feedback.
  • Willingness to contribute to the development of children both inside and outside the classroom, potentially working extended hours.
  • Regular attendance is required.
  • Must present proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States.
