About the Role

The Financial Controller will serve as a strategic partner and trusted advisor to help HSBC Innovation Banking achieve its mission of increasing client success. This role is responsible for financial and regulatory reporting, management information, tax reporting, and overseeing non-financial risk for the Finance function. The individual will also present to the Audit Committee on reporting and controls.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure adequate financial reporting controls and governance are embedded across the business.
  • Oversee loan, deposit, and fee booking and accounting, investment, and treasury activity.
  • Liaise with SOX team, internal audit, and external auditors.
  • Define and own IFRS accounting to ensure financial reporting integrity and timely close and filings.
  • Oversee accounting operations, close, associated controls, and ledger maintenance.
  • Lead local processes and approvals for loan loss accounting.
  • Support the HSBC UK team on close and consolidation.
  • Provide technical accounting support for new structures, products, or projects.
  • Coordinate and consolidate monthly and quarterly financial performance reporting and presentations.
  • Oversee and lead the team responsible for regulatory reporting, review, and sign-off.
  • Manage the production of financial accounts and audit.
  • Oversee and manage tax activity with support from local and global tax professionals.
  • Contribute to and drive local implementation of global Finance Transformation efforts.
  • Act as local finance SME for change projects.
  • Stay abreast of accounting, regulatory, and compliance developments and best practices.
  • Educate the team and business on developments and best practices.
  • Embrace technology and promote agile ways of working.
  • Attract, retain, and grow finance talent.
  • Coach and mentor colleagues.
  • Directly lead a team of finance professionals in the UK and India.
  • Build strong relationships with individuals across multiple teams and time zones in a matrix management structure.

Requirements

  • Proven Financial Controller with leadership experience in a bank subsidiary.
  • Knowledge and experience across accounting, regulatory, and control disciplines.
  • Experienced in managing external audits and working with audit committees.
  • Strong technical knowledge of IFRS accounting.
  • Strong technical knowledge of UK financial services regulatory requirements.
  • Strong technical knowledge of Basel rules.
  • Strong commercial leadership and people management skills.
  • Exceptional analytical and technical skills.
  • Ability to build and run a world-class Controllership function across multiple locations.
  • Good understanding of the UK commercial banking environment and product set.
  • Ability to quickly gain thorough knowledge of HINV’s bank operations and products.
  • Brilliant communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships, influence, engage, and explain complex and simple concepts.
  • Resourceful, collaborative, and able to lead and support multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Audit experience.
  • Chartered Accountancy qualification or equivalent education.
  • Passionate about continuous learning and improvement.
