About the Role
This role involves screening Administrative Monetary Penalty Notices (AMPs), scheduling screenings, and making decisions based on Municipal By-laws. The position also handles enforcement service requests and complaints, dispatches personnel, and maintains records.
Responsibilities
- Reviews, assesses, provides information, and resolves issues regarding alleged by-law infractions.
- Schedules, documents, and notifies defendants of screenings and hearings.
- Conducts screenings of by-law violations in-person, by phone, or via administrative review.
- Provides written notice of decisions to defendants.
- Conducts seizure of accessible parking permits for misuse, alteration, or fraudulent use.
- Responds to inquiries, providing written and verbal clarification of by-law regulations, administrative processes, and related legislation.
- Dispatches Provincial Offences Officers for enforcement requests and complaints.
- Liaises with the Ministry of Attorney General Defaulted Fines and Control Centre.
- Liaises with Service Ontario Accessible Parking Permit Services.
- Accesses computer files to determine infraction status and directs the public to appropriate options.
- Documents information for processing parking and other by-law infractions in parking software.
- Processes and mails Notices regarding penalties associated with AMPs.
- Acts as Clerk for hearings as required.
- Dispatches meter maintenance technicians to check parking meter status.
- Receives defective sign reports and initiates repairs.
- Maintains service area records and ensures compliance with the Records Retention By-law.
- Receives and distributes incoming payments and correspondence.
- Investigates cheques with insufficient funds and oversees the application of additional fees.
- Operates standard office equipment, including computer and dispatch communication equipment.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Completion of a two-year Diploma in a legal or court administration program or equivalent.
- One year of previous experience providing services in a court system, legal environment, or parking enforcement setting with direct public contact.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite of software applications.
- Criminal Record Check required.
Skills
- Mediation and/or conflict resolution (asset)
- Knowledge of by-laws, particularly parking enforcement, Provincial Offences Act, Highway Traffic Act, and Municipal Act (asset)
- Confidence in resolving customer/client issues
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
