About the Role

The Culinary Supervisor is responsible for the daily operation of the kitchen, assisting in menu preparation, recipe testing, event staffing, training back-of-house staff, ensuring food quality, and managing food ordering and production. This role also supports restaurant and café employees in delivering a high-quality culinary experience at SUNY Geneseo.

Responsibilities

  • Provides supervision and direction to staff and coordinates workflow within the work unit.
  • Ensures an effective learning environment by coaching employees and providing feedback.
  • Maintains and inspects food receiving, preparation, production, and storage areas.
  • Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by enforcing sanitation and quality standards.
  • Ensures coverage of openings based on unexpected absences.
  • Assists with ensuring proper production techniques are followed.
  • Oversees the service of meals to ensure quality, portioning, and procedures are correct.
  • Implements product promotions by ensuring marketing materials are developed and in place.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of procedures and identifies changes to enhance processes.
  • Identifies and implements ways to streamline and improve efficiencies.
  • Other duties may be assigned to reach individual and organizational goals.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent experience required.
  • Associates degree or equivalent from a two-year college/technical school preferred.
  • Culinary and supervisory experience preferred.
  • Ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds occasionally.
  • Occasional computer use.
