About the Role
The Tactical Capacity Manager is responsible for optimizing IAG Cargo’s internal and external capacity, maximizing utilization within the Integrated Planning window with an efficient cost base. This role is key to ensuring IAG Cargo has the right capacity, at the right cost, in the right place to meet Commercial and Operational requirements. The role involves working on shift to ensure robust network coverage, coordinating across teams, and managing suppliers to maximize freight uplift and protect customer performance.
Responsibilities
- Manage the optimization of all IAG Cargo’s capacity in the Integrated Planning window, including IAG’s airline operating companies and external providers (trucking, freighter, interline) to drive operational performance, utilization, and costs.
- Respond to changes in booking trends or backlog position with dynamic plans to adjust capacity focus, rerouting and sourcing capacity as needed.
- Work directly with IAG airlines to influence aircraft allocation changes for improved Commercial and Operational performance.
- Use data to provide actionable feedback to Inventory, Sales, and Operations teams on capacity utilization, improving gateway strategies and regional flows.
- Work closely with trucking suppliers across the IAG Cargo network, managing metrics such as on-time performance, truck utilization, and operational KPIs, and ensuring SLAs are delivered.
- Liaise with trucking suppliers to secure ad hoc capacity, managing processes to avoid unnecessary trucking spend.
- Oversee external freighter operations, ensuring alignment with Commercial and Operations teams on utilization opportunities and communicating schedule disruptions.
- Interface with Integrated Planning, Sales, Commercial, and GHAs, escalating supplier performance risks and capacity utilization issues.
- Ensure internal and external capacity complies with customs frameworks in relevant countries.
- Ensure data tracked with freighter and trucking suppliers can be used to manage service levels and highlight efficiencies.
Requirements
- Commercially astute with an eye for cost/performance trade-offs.
- Strong communicator with the ability to influence and coordinate across departments and businesses.
- Data-literate and capable of converting tactical data into actionable changes in internal process or contract frameworks.
- Comfortable working autonomously in a shift-based environment.
- Experience in real-time operations, logistics coordination, or capacity management.
- Proven ability to manage third-party suppliers and respond to disruption.
