About the Role

AbbVie is seeking a Workplace Health, Safety & Wellbeing Lead to champion a culture where people come first, drive a 'safety first' mindset, and lead the business's capability in psychosocial risk management and mental health. This role involves proactively managing wellbeing initiatives, injury prevention, WorkCover claims, case management, and Return to Work outcomes. You will lead the wellbeing agenda, strategic wellbeing projects, ensure compliance with ANZ WHS legislation, and partner with senior leadership to deliver data-driven insights.

Responsibilities

  • Foster and lead a ‘safety first’ mindset among all employees through visible leadership, regular engagement, and effective training.
  • Lead the business’s capability in identifying, preventing, and managing psychosocial risks; embed mental and emotional wellbeing frameworks.
  • Oversee the end-to-end worker health lifecycle, including implementing wellbeing and mental health initiatives.
  • Manage incident prevention, immediate response, and investigations for physical and psychological incidents.
  • Coordinate WorkCover claims and injury case management.
  • Facilitate timely and positive Return to Work outcomes.
  • Identify and lead strategic projects focused on proactive wellbeing management, resilience-building, and staff physical safety.
  • Maintain compliance with ANZ WHS legislation and company policies.
  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments for all environments, including field and business-wide activities.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain affiliate Crisis Management, Business Continuity, and Disaster Recovery plans.
  • Advise the leadership team on holistic safety risk, providing data-driven insights on physical safety and psychosocial health trends.
  • Provide hands-on WHS guidance across all departments, ensuring staff are trained and have access to expert assistance.
  • Report adverse events within 24 hours as per AbbVie’s policies.
  • Ensure adverse events are captured and forwarded to pharmacovigilance within required timeframes.
  • Support Adverse Event reconciliation activities.
  • Assist with the management of systems, databases, workflow, and documentation for the compassionate supply program.
  • Proactively participate in AbbVie’s WHS programs, adhere to policies, and promote a safe work environment.
  • Adhere to AbbVie’s internal codes of conduct and compliance processes.
  • Perform other ad hoc administrative duties as requested.

Requirements

  • Tertiary qualification in WHS/EHS or equivalent.
  • Certificate IV in Workplace Assessment & Training.
  • Return to Work Coordinator Certificate and Qualified First Aider.
  • In-depth expertise in Work Cover, Rehabilitation, Return to Work, and Injury Management legislation.
  • Comprehensive end-to-end injury management, including workers’ compensation.
  • Proven track record in interpreting legislation and developing compliance programs.
  • Exceptional coordination and stakeholder management skills within a matrixed environment.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving aptitude.
  • Advanced time management and organisational skills.
  • Proven ability to build business capability in managing mental health and emotional risks in a corporate environment.
  • Proficient in business continuity planning and emergency management.
  • Skilled in WHS auditing, obtaining accreditations, and driving continuous improvements.
  • Extensive experience implementing WHS/EHS best practices and processes.
  • Flexibility to occasionally participate in business meetings outside of standard hours due to international, matrixed environment.
  • Adherence to AbbVie’s internal codes of conduct and compliance processes.
