About the Role

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will design and build secure, scalable, and high-performing software for Australia's critical payments infrastructure. You will work across the full software development lifecycle, solve complex engineering challenges, influence technical direction, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver resilient, customer-focused solutions. You will also champion modern engineering practices and leverage AI-enabled development tools to enhance productivity, code quality, and delivery outcomes.

Responsibilities

Design, build, and maintain secure, scalable, and resilient software solutions that support business and customer outcomes.
Lead the design and implementation of complex software components, APIs, and distributed systems using modern engineering practices.
Drive technical excellence through clean architecture, secure coding standards, code reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Optimize software delivery through CI/CD, automation, cloud-native technologies, and infrastructure-as-code practices.
Leverage AI-powered development tools to accelerate coding, testing, refactoring, and documentation while maintaining high engineering standards.
Collaborate closely with Product, Architecture, Security, and Operations teams to deliver high-quality, production-ready solutions.
Mentor and support engineers, contributing to a culture of continuous learning, collaboration, and engineering excellence.
Influence technical decisions, evaluate design trade-offs, and help shape the future direction of AP+'s engineering capability.

Requirements

4+ years of experience with software development using one or more modern programming languages, such as Java, TypeScript, C#, or Python.
Demonstrated experience building and delivering complex software solutions in a Senior Software Engineer or similar role.
Experience building scalable distributed systems, APIs, and cloud-native applications using modern software architecture principles.
Deep understanding of secure software engineering practices, including secure coding, and software quality.
Strong software design capability, with experience evaluating architectural trade-offs and delivering maintainable, high-quality solutions.
Experience working in cross-functional engineering teams and partnering effectively with Product, Design, and Architecture stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to mentor junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and contribute to engineering standards and best practices.
Experience using AI-enabled engineering tools to enhance software development, testing, refactoring, and documentation, while maintaining strong engineering discipline and code quality.
Hands-on experience with AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure-as-Code will be highly regarded.
Experience within payments, financial services, or other highly regulated environments will be highly regarded but is not essential.
