About the Role
This role supports a Sydney-based Defence customer, delivering a modern and secure desktop experience across a complex ICT environment. As an SOE Engineer, you will play a key role in the organization's Windows 10 to Windows 11 transition, helping to design, build, test and deploy a scalable Standard Operating Environment that supports operational readiness, security compliance, and end-user productivity.
Responsibilities
- Support the development, maintenance, and optimisation of the Windows 11 Standard Operating Environment (SOE) using technologies such as MECM/SCCM, Microsoft Intune, and MDT.
- Package, test, and validate applications for compatibility, ensuring a seamless transition to Windows 11 across enterprise devices and virtualised environments.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, security, and operational teams to implement SOE standards that align with organisational security, compliance, and performance requirements.
- Contribute to pilot deployments, troubleshooting activities, documentation, and knowledge transfer, providing technical guidance to support teams throughout the rollout lifecycle.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in SOE engineering, desktop deployment, and operating system lifecycle management.
- Knowledge of Windows 10 and Windows 11 architecture, deployment methodologies, and enterprise endpoint management practices.
- Experience using MECM/SCCM, Microsoft Intune, PowerShell scripting, and Group Policy to manage and deploy desktop environments.
- Capability in application packaging and compatibility testing utilising technologies such as MSI, App-V, or MSIX.
- Experience working with Active Directory and implementing enterprise security and compliance standards.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex desktop and deployment issues and deliver practical, customer-focused solutions.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to create technical documentation and support knowledge transfer activities.
- Experience supporting large-scale Windows 11 migration or desktop modernisation programs.
- Exposure to client virtualisation technologies and modern endpoint management practices.
- Knowledge of change management, risk assessment, and deployment governance processes within Defence or other highly regulated environments.
- Must be an Australian citizen.
- Must hold a NV-2 security clearance.
