About the Role

The Payroll Team Lead supports day-to-day payroll operations by assigning work, handling administrative requests, and performing complex investigations. This role ensures payroll accuracy, integrity, and compliance with collective agreements, HR policies, and internal controls while managing payroll processing for employees and pensioners.

Responsibilities

  • Assign work to payroll specialists and clerks
  • Respond to complex payroll inquiries and perform investigations
  • Review and approve validations and reconciliations
  • Monitor payroll processing services for employees and pensioners
  • Coordinate payroll exits with the Time & Attendance team
  • Execute batch jobs for pay exits
  • Manage case work, overpayment analysis, and reconciliation
  • Run audit reports throughout payroll processing
  • Approve manual cheques and GL entries
  • Serve as the first point of contact for escalated payroll inquiries
  • Manage training for new payroll staff
  • Approve government and third-party remittances
  • Support payroll data pulls for reconciliations
  • Assist with internal and external audits
  • Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and territorial legislation
  • Generate variance and change reports for quality control
  • Support special projects and continuous improvement initiatives

Requirements

  • Knowledge of accounting and payroll principles
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation
  • Experience in payroll processing, payment distribution, tax reporting, and account reconciliation
  • Experience in a supervisory capacity
  • Understanding of business processes and collective agreements
  • Experience with SAP or SuccessFactors Employee Central
  • Experience with Service Now
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
  • Up to 4 years of relevant experience
