About the Role

Join a world-class team at Mount Sinai Hospital utilizing cutting-edge technologies to provide genetic diagnostic results that impact patient care and treatment.

Responsibilities

• Perform Molecular and Cytogenetics procedures according to laboratory standard operating procedures.
• Rotate through laboratory testing benches to master all procedures and techniques.
• Identify and report cytogenetic findings using the International System for Human Cytogenetic Nomenclature.
• Ensure accuracy, legibility, and completeness of reported results.
• Execute quality control procedures and perform basic troubleshooting.
• Accession and process specimens per standard operating procedures.
• Prioritize work to meet urgent or unpredicted testing demands.
• Prepare reagents, buffers, and calibrators while assisting with inventory control.
• Conduct method evaluation, test optimization, and validation.
• Adhere to the quality management system policies and procedures.
• Orient and demonstrate procedures to new staff or students.
• Perform and interpret Next Generation Sequencing and Sanger Sequencing.
• Execute DNA and RNA extraction from various sample types.
• Perform PCR, QF-PCR, gel electrophoresis, MSI, and MLPA techniques.
• Conduct microarray analysis, special stains, and FISH procedures.
• Perform microscopic analysis of chromosome preparations.
• Execute G-Banding, digital imaging, and computer automated karyotyping.

Requirements

• CSMLS certified MLT in Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics Technology (Dual License).
• Current registration in good standing with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO).
• Candidates eligible to write the upcoming Clinical Genetics CSMLS exam will be considered.
• Proof of visual colour discrimination ability.
