About the Role
The Occupational Therapist (OT) is a Related Service Provider (RSP) responsible for providing direct and indirect service to students and staff, fostering successful inclusion for Cooke students through collaborative relationships with parents, partner schools, and colleagues.
Responsibilities
- Interpret assessments to determine student functioning and needs.
- Conduct ongoing informal assessments in the classroom and coordinate professional practice with pedagogic staff.
- Utilize a variety of activities to meet students’ needs.
- Maintain ongoing communication with classroom teachers and parents about student progress.
- Attend team meetings prepared with student information.
- Collect and assess student homework for portfolios.
- Develop Progress Reports in conjunction with the classroom teacher and team members.
- Create plans consistent with Progress Report goals for each child.
- Maintain narrative logs and attendance records for each child.
- Complete monthly documentation relevant to the number of sessions provided.
- Ensure make-up sessions are provided.
- Initiate and foster good working relationships with teachers, paraprofessionals, administration, and parents.
- Attend all planning meetings with teachers and monthly meetings with each classroom team.
- Participate in all Progress Report meetings.
- Attend and participate in all Cooke meetings and workshops.
- Arrive at assigned site and meetings promptly and be prepared.
- Prepare documents for CSE meetings and impartial hearings, if applicable.
- Adhere to carefully planned schedules.
- Utilize supervisor for guidance, discussion, collaboration, and professional growth.
- Develop professional growth goals with supervisor and create a plan to achieve them.
- Attend all scheduled Staff Development activities and participate in staff orientation.
Requirements
- Valid and current License and/or Certification to practice in New York State.
- Ability to provide your National Provider Identification (NPI) number.
- Able to maintain the physical capacity required to navigate the school environment and ensure student safety.
- Ability to walk, run, sit, and stand.
- Ability to move rapidly forward, backward, and laterally.
- Ability to bend and stoop.
- Ability to push, pull, and lift.
