About the Role
Oversee the safe and efficient operations of WSI’s baggage operations, including resource allocation, system monitoring, and stakeholder coordination. This role transitions from regular business hours to shift-based work supporting operational trials and live operations.
Responsibilities
- Oversee safe and efficient operations of baggage operations.
- Monitor planning and allocation of baggage system resources.
- Manage the flow of baggage within the baggage handling systems.
- Liaise with and monitor the performance of the Baggage Service Provider (BSP).
- Monitor and adjust the allocation of make-up resources.
- Monitor the supply of Unit Load Device (ULD) containers.
- Coordinate plans for daily and seasonal flight schedules within the baggage system High Level Controller.
- Monitor assembly of baggage batches and allocation to designated loading resources.
- Monitor the status of arriving aircraft to predict baggage volumes.
- Coordinate with the BSP to ensure adequate staffing for inbound/outbound activities.
- Monitor storage capacity and clearance of the outbound oversize baggage process.
- Establish communication with airlines and Ground Handling Agents regarding flight preparations, resource allocation, and baggage transfer.
- Monitor BSP performance in unloading incoming baggage, ensuring proper segregation.
- Liaise with the BHS contractor regarding planned maintenance and system malfunctions.
- Coordinate with the WSA Airport Operations Coordination Centre (AOCC) for contingency arrangements and carousel clearance.
- Assist in coordinating resources for system outages and business continuity.
- Oversee allocation and utilization of the Baggage Reconciliation System.
- Monitor compliance with Airport Standards and Rules (ASR) and government regulations.
- Support the assurance program.
Requirements
- 3-5 years previous experience in airport baggage systems operations preferred.
- Alternatively, warehouse distribution systems coordination or parcel freight sortation systems control experience.
- Highly effective planning skills with strong attention to detail.
- Focused, safe, and efficient work methods.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong working relationships.
- Outstanding problem-solving skills and the ability to foresee potential issues.
- Ability to apply lessons learned from previous incidents and implement improvements.
- Data analysis and data model interrogation skills.
- Experience working with complex computer systems and ability to learn new systems.
- NSW Driver's Licence.
- Ability to obtain an Authority to Drive Airside (ADA).
- Ability to obtain an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC).
- Senior First Aid Certificate.
