About the Company
- UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
- In the Philippines, it has played an important role in supporting critical agencies in aligning mandates and their articulated commitments to the global normative standard of human rights, gender equality and empowerment of women and including important international conventions particularly the Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women, the Beijing Platform for Action and UN Security Council Resolution 1325.
- With the continued work and strengthened resolve to deliver on its normative, coordination and operations mandate as articulated and further committed through its new Strategic Plan for 2026 – 2029, UN Women is furthering its work and readiness to jointly deliver on various actions through joint programming.
- UN Women recognizes the imperative of tapping into and leveraging domestic resources to sustain and scale impact. Strengthening local financing ecosystems and mobilizing national and subnational investments are critical to ensuring inclusive and gender-responsive access to capital, markets, and enabling infrastructure to support women’s economic empowerment.
- In July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. The creation of UN Women came about as part of the UN reform agenda, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact. It merges and builds on the important work of four previously distinct parts of the UN system (DAW, OSAGI, INSTRAW and UNIFEM), which focused exclusively on gender equality and women's empowerment.
