About the Role

Daedal Systems is seeking a Vice President of Technology and Product to lead the engineering and product development of our industrialized plasma diagnostic platform. This senior technical authority will be responsible for transforming low-TRL systems into deployable products, overseeing all engineering verticals, and defining the product roadmap and quality standards. The role involves close collaboration with the Vice President of Science.

Responsibilities

  • Own the engineering and product development of the industrialized plasma diagnostic platform.
  • Take plasma diagnostic systems from low-TRL, bench-top systems to industrialized, deployable products.
  • Own all engineering verticals supporting the platform, including mechanical, electrical, optical, controls/firmware, and software/data acquisition.
  • Own the product roadmap and quality/reliability standards for scalable deployment.
  • Set technical and product strategy with minimal organizational support.
  • Make high-stakes engineering calls independently.
  • Operate as a senior technical voice across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Interact with customers to gather, capture, and prioritize product requirements.
  • Create a product strategy and product roadmap.
  • Communicate product strategy and roadmap to customers.
  • Mentor and guide engineering leads across technical verticals.
  • Represent Daedal's engineering credibility externally with clients and partners.
  • Shape Daedal's overall technical direction and culture as it scales.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering, physics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Demonstrable track record of engineering leadership, including taking hardware systems from early-stage R&D/prototype through to deployed, production-grade products.
  • Direct experience with complex scientific or precision instrumentation, ideally in fusion, aerospace, semiconductor equipment, or an adjacent hard-tech sector.
  • Cross-disciplinary engineering leadership spanning at least several of: mechanical, electrical, optical, controls/firmware, and software/DAQ, with systems-level integration experience.
  • Strong record of industrializing or productizing complex, one-off R&D hardware into repeatable, manufacturable, and scalable systems.
  • Ability to set technical and product strategy with minimal organizational support.
  • Ability to make high-stakes engineering calls independently.
  • Comfortable operating as a senior technical voice across multiple engineering disciplines simultaneously.
  • Based in Toronto or willing to relocate.
  • Comfortable with travel up to 15% of time, occasionally for 2+ weeks in a row.
  • Familiarity with associated feature/requirements tools such as JIRA is an asset.
