About the Role

The Solar Development Lead will manage the development of distributed generation (DG) solar and battery storage projects across the United States. This position is responsible for leading the advancement of DG projects through critical development milestones, providing technical and strategic guidance, managing external partners, and advising team members. This role serves as a subject matter expert, drives execution, and contributes to team development and organizational performance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all aspects of solar project development, including regulatory, design, environmental, real estate, technical, and interconnection due diligence for various project types.
  • Manage budgets, project milestones, and schedules to ensure projects stay on track.
  • Understand and manage the various applications and permit processes for state and local approvals.
  • Conduct permitting and environmental studies, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Engage, onboard, and manage external consultants, providing clear direction and feedback.
  • Engage and manage external stakeholders, including landowners, local officials, and community members.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders from origination, engineering, construction, legal, and capital markets.
  • Assess, analyze, and mitigate risks throughout the development cycle.
  • Lead land structuring, negotiating, and closing legal documentation for site control and clean title.
  • Maintain advanced knowledge and analyze policies governing renewables.
  • Implement process improvement strategies by identifying and capturing lessons learned.
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities, development bottlenecks, and recommend solutions.
  • Identify process efficiency and innovation within the DG development team.

Requirements

  • Minimum 6 years of experience in renewable energy development.
  • Demonstrated leadership in advancing complex projects through permitting, interconnection, and construction readiness.
  • Strong understanding of contracts, regulatory frameworks, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Strong command of the development cycle, including utility interconnection, permitting, land matters, construction hand-off, and budget/schedule management.
  • Financial planning, budgeting, organizational, and resource management skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage and motivate a variety of project stakeholders.
  • Problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
  • Travel 10%-25% as needed.
