About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated Substitute Early Childhood Teacher to create a warm, supportive, and stimulating environment for young learners. You will build trusting relationships with children to support their emotional and social development while inspiring them to explore, learn, and grow.
Responsibilities
- Nurture children by setting daily routines and ensuring their basic needs are met.
- Guide children through research-based activities to build curiosity and school readiness.
- Plan creative, hands-on activities covering language, math, science, and social skills.
- Foster self-esteem and social-emotional growth.
- Observe and document child progress and developmental milestones.
- Maintain regular communication with parents regarding child progress and concerns.
- Ensure classrooms and play areas are clean, sanitized, and safe.
- Serve healthy snacks in accordance with safety guidelines.
- Collaborate with assistant teachers and staff to maintain a supportive environment.
- Maintain accurate program records.
- Adhere to Texas Child Care Regulation directives to ensure child safety.
- Facilitate outdoor learning and nature play.
- Participate in staff development and team meetings.
- Promote the YMCA mission, values, and wellness philosophy.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in early childhood education, child development, or related field, or a degree with a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or state-recognized equivalent.
- High School graduate or GED equivalent.
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- Relevant experience working with young children.
- Experience in licensed childcare.
- Ability to obtain CPR/first aid certification, criminal background check, and food handler’s license.
- Availability to work Monday through Friday with a flexible schedule.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, talk, and lift or move equipment, furniture, or children.
