About the Role
To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.
Responsibilities
- Perform high dusting of surfaces above shoulder height.
- Sanitize and spot clean surfaces below shoulder height, including ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trash cans.
- Clean bathrooms using germicidal solutions, including sinks, toilets, and dispensers.
- Empty trash cans, replace liners, and clean cans if necessary.
- Dust mop or vacuum floors, including under furniture and in restrooms.
- Perform grounds care, including cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and parking lots, and spot cleaning spills.
- Clean and sanitize tables in food courts, remove and clean trays, and police outside eating areas.
- Sanitize floors using proper germicidal solutions.
- Visually inspect and ensure furniture placement is correct after cleaning.
- Perform daily cleaning of hall, lobby, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and walls.
- Interact with customers in a friendly and courteous manner, answering questions or referring them to appropriate personnel.
- Report any broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor.
- Work quietly and maintain a neat personal appearance.
- Report to supervisor if work assignment is not completed by the end of the shift.
- Perform other duties as assigned, which may include floor care, carpet cleaning, and floor buffing.
Requirements
- Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
- Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
- Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
- Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
- Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
- Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
- Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate for assigned duties, including walking, standing, sitting, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling 5-35 lbs, climbing stairs and ladders, bending, twisting, balancing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, grasping, fingering, and overhead reaching.
- Adequate sight for performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, including depth perception and hand-eye coordination.
