About the Role

The S&P Global Energy Commodity Risk Solutions team is seeking an experienced Analyst to create solutions supporting commodity risk functions. This role involves developing quantitative forward curves for energy commodity markets, conceptualizing, developing, and operating models. The analyst will work across the value chain, from sales and product management to defining market opportunities, developing new products with editorial and analytical staff, coding for curve publication, and monitoring performance. They will leverage market knowledge to assist sales in defining and describing products to customers, gaining expertise in commodity markets and technologies like Matlab, SQL, and Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Develops algorithms for new forward pricing points for illiquid locations/commodities.
  • Implements algorithms in Matlab and SQL.
  • Updates related documentation.
  • Performs analysis and modeling including developing quantitative/analytic/statistical models.
  • Ensures proper publication of curves every day with the team.
  • Responds to client requests/enquiries for data and analysis.

Requirements

  • Proven work experience performing commodity quantitative or market analysis in 1 or more of the following markets: Crude Oil; Refined Products; Electricity; Natural Gas; LNG; Metals.
  • Regional commodity experience from Europe/Middle East or Asia.
  • Experience with Risk Management, forward curves and/or volatility is essential.
  • Experience using Scientific Programming (Matlab/Python/R/SAS), SQL databases, and MS Excel.
  • Well-rounded communication skills including good listening techniques, clear, concise writing style, and good verbal skills.
  • Ability to communicate across a wide range of groups and personalities internally and externally.
  • Works well in a team environment, focusing on collaboration and adapting to the needs of a diverse team.
  • Adept at managing multiple tasks and adhering to regular deadlines.
  • Able to adjust priorities throughout the day.
  • Self-starter capable of diligently pursuing tasks and managing priorities while working remotely from management.
  • Comfortable developing quantitatively-derived forward curves in coordination with other experts.
  • Comfortable implementing forward curves in an every-day, without-fail environment with little direct supervision.
